Looking for a South African internship program? For the SITA Internship Program, applications are invited from qualified and suitable candidates. The steps for submitting an application are listed below.

An internship is a period of work experience offered by an organization for a limited period of time. An internship is used for a wide range of placements in businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. They are typically undertaken by students and graduates looking to gain relevant skills and experience in a particular field.

Internships for professional careers are similar in some ways. Similar to internships, apprenticeships transition students from vocational school into the workforce. The lack of standardization and oversight leaves the term “internship” open to broad interpretation. Interns may be high school students, college and university students, or post-graduate adults. These positions may be paid or unpaid and are temporary.

SITA Internship Programme Application Details

SITA stands for – State Information Technology Agency.  They support Governments ideals in creating sustainable employment via developing young minds and skills.  This, in turn, will alleviate the unemployment rate amongst the youth of South Africa.  They are doing their part with an ideal internship, or otherwise known as their youth development program.

This program helps to bridge the gap between education and employment, it strives to give talented individuals greatly required skills, as well as expertise within specific fields.  SITA is an equal opportunity institute, targeted at empowering previously disadvantaged and disabled South Africans, to reach their dreams.

The interns are placed within their fields of study, under strict, yet experienced supervision for mentoring.  The internship is usually for a period of 12 months unless otherwise stated by the institution.  A stipend of approximately R3500 is paid to interns each month.

Sita Internships Requirements

Applications are accepted yearly for a selection of internships, these, in turn, fill opening that may arise within a variety sectors.  Candidates whom are between 18 and 35, unemployed and hold a degree within the fields mentioned may apply.  Candidates with disabilities also welcome to apply.

Candidates will also be required to have the following:

  • Candidates must hold a valid Matric certificate
  • Candidates must be a South African citizen
  • Candidates must hold a valid ID book/card
  • Candidates must hold a diploma or degree form a recognized institute of higher learning
  • Candidates must hold a degree or diploma within the selected discipline
  • Candidates must be MS cultured, as well as computer literate
  • Candidates must be proficient in English (read, write & speak)
  • Candidates must not have been employed previously
  • Candidates must not have participated in any other internships
  • Candidates must not hold any kind of criminal record
  • Candidates must show a commitment to learning

More information will be made available to qualifying candidates, depending on the internship.  Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.  Ensure you attach all relevant certified documentation to your application, in addition to a curriculum vitae.  The curriculum vitae should reflect your expertise, competencies along with your skills and interests.

How to Apply

Internships online applications processes are made available during the year.  There are multiple sites where applications can be made, however, it is advised to regularly check on the SITA Website for any developments during the year or visit their careers page.

Candidates must specify the discipline they are interested in applying for.  Please also be aware that if you have applied, and have not heard from SITA after one month once applications have closed, your application was then unsuccessful.  They will only have correspondence with shortlisted applicants.

The closing dates for internships fluctuate, depending on the current needs within SITA at the time.  However many of their internships open during the first couple of months of the year and close around November each year.

Be sure to check on their home page frequently for such openings.  Remember to complete the forms fully and add all relevant documentation.
