If your application with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) has been approved, you’ll need to collect your PSIRA certificate in person. Whether you’re an individual security officer or a registered security business, this guide explains where to collect, how to check your status, renewal rules, and what documents you need.
Where to Collect Your PSIRA Certificate
You can collect your certificate at any PSiRA branch nearest to you (excluding the head office).
Bring your valid South African ID book or ID card when collecting your certificate for the first time.

📦 Can PSIRA Post or Deliver My Certificate?
❌ No. Certificates cannot be posted or sent by courier.
PSIRA requires your fingerprint verification at the branch before printing, so you must collect in person.
Can Someone Else Collect or Renew My Certificate for Me?
- ❌ For individuals: No one can collect or renew on your behalf because your fingerprint must be verified at the branch.
- ✔️ For employed security officers: Your employer can renew your certificate on your behalf, but only with your consent.
You must visit a PSIRA branch (not the head office) when fingerprint verification is required.
How Long Does a PSIRA Certificate Remain Valid?
| Type of Certificate | Validity Period |
|---|---|
| Individual Certificate | 24 months |
| Business Certificate | 12 months |
