The CPTD Management System is designed to facilitate and manage professional development for educators across South Africa. SACE collaborates with various stakeholders, including teacher unions and provincial education departments, to implement this system effectively. By providing ongoing support, SACE ensures that teachers have access to professional development (PD) activities, can record their participation, and manage their CPTD points effectively.
Key Objectives of the CPTD System:
- Facilitating Professional Development: SACE works to coordinate PD activities and provide access to a comprehensive database of approved PD providers.
- Supporting Educators: Ongoing support is provided to help teachers sign up for the CPTD system, track their progress, and navigate the self-service portal.
- Tracking Professional Growth: Educators can earn points through participation in endorsed CPTD activities, which are recorded and updated regularly.
Phased Implementation of the CPTD System
The CPTD system was approved for implementation by the SACE Council in November 2012. The rollout occurs in three distinct cohorts to ensure a structured approach:
1st Cohort: Principals and Deputy Principals
- Implementation: January 2014 – December 2016
- Purpose: The first cohort focuses on school leaders, allowing them to foster a culture of continuous development within their schools.
2nd Cohort: Heads of Departments (HoDs)
- Implementation: January 2015 – December 2017
- Purpose: By including HoDs, SACE ensures that experienced educators can guide their colleagues in navigating the CPTD system effectively.
3rd Cohort: Post Level 1 Teachers
- Implementation: January 2016 – December 2018
- Purpose: This final group of educators will benefit from the experiences and insights gained by their more senior colleagues, enhancing their engagement with the CPTD system.
