UNISA Short Course in Designing and Implementing Telecommunication Networks

Short Course in Designing and Implementing Telecommunication Networks (70157)Purpose

Data Communications and Computer Networks are becoming increasingly more important. The business world could not function without either. Business managers, computer programmers, system designers and home computer users alike need a thorough understanding of the basic features, operations and limitations of different types of computer networks. This course introduces concepts that achieve an in-depth understanding of the often complex topic of Data Communications and Computer Networks by balancing the more technical aspects and the everyday practical aspects. This course includes readability and coverage of the most current technologies. It offers full coverage of wireless technologies, industry convergence, compression techniques, network security, LAN technologies, VoIP, and expanded coverage of error detection and correction.

 Tuition method

This course has two modes namely a web-based mode and a correspondence mode. Students can follow any one of these two modes but cannot interchange between the modes as the semester proceeds.

MODE 1: Web-based course This course is presented in a paperless, web-based mode. It requires a permanent e-mail address as well as a personal Internet connection, which may be at home or from work. An Internet Cafe solution is not a suitable Internet connection, since most of these types of connections do not allow for PDF readable formats, which is the basic format of all electronic notes of this course. Course notes are made available on the web and the download of the material is the responsibility of the student.

MODE 2: Correspondence course This course is presented in a paper-based format. It requires a permanent postal address from where students can collect the course notes that will be sent to them. Having an e-mail address and temporary Internet access through an Internet Cafe or a friend can be beneficial but is not compulsory.
 Kind of assessment

Note:
Formative assessment and examination admission will comply with UNISA’s formative assessment rules and policies
Formative assessment:
Two assignments throughout the semester
Summative assessment:
A two-hour examination at the end of the semester
