MultiChoice Overhauls DStv Packages and Unveils Unified Stream-Decoder Pricing

By | September 7, 2026

MultiChoice has officially confirmed the largest restructuring of its DStv product lineup in 15 years, introducing brand-new targeted packages and signaling an end to the price gap between streaming and decoder subscriptions.

Following a leak on its website, the Canal+-backed broadcaster formally announced the changes at its Randburg headquarters. The overhaul shifts DStv away from generic tiers toward targeted content bundles, introduces unified pricing across delivery platforms, and overhauls channel distributions starting 17 September 2026.

Streamlining Prices: Equalizing Decoder and Streaming Subscriptions

Historically, DStv decoder subscribers paid 13% to 52% more per month than streaming-only subscribers. MultiChoice is moving to eliminate this discrepancy, pricing its newly launched Movies & Series package at R500 per month across both platforms.

Byron du Plessis, CEO of SA Pay-TV at Canal+ Africa, confirmed this is the initial phase of a broader repricing strategy aimed at aligning cost structure with content value rather than hardware delivery. Additionally, rounded pricing (such as R500 instead of endings with “9”) is being trialed in South Africa following successful implementation across Canal+’s European operations and physical retail cash payments.
