How to Get a SARS Tax Number Confirmation Letter Online

By | July 30, 2025

A SARS tax number confirmation letter is an official document issued by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to confirm that a person or business is registered for tax. This letter includes your tax reference number, full name, and the date it was issued. It may also contain the SARS logo or stamp for authenticity.

This letter is often required for:

  • Job applications
  • Opening a bank account
  • Registering a business
  • Verifying tax compliance with institutions like NSFAS or CIPC

What is a Tax Number?

A tax number is a unique 10-digit identification number issued by SARS. It is used when filing tax returns, receiving tax refunds, or doing any SARS-related business. Every South African taxpayer must have one.
