Learner’s Licence Overview

A learner’s licence permits an individual to drive a vehicle under the supervision of a fully licensed driver. The licence is valid for 24 months and is not renewable. A professional driving permit is required if you’re learning in a category that needs one.

Learner’s Licence Codes:

  • Code 1: Motorcycles (with/without sidecars), motor tricycles, or quadricycles.
    • Age 16+ for bikes ≤ 125cc
    • Age 18+ for bikes > 125cc

How to Book a Learner’s Licence Test Online

  1. Go to https://online.natis.gov.za
  2. Choose your province from the dropdown list.
  3. Click the button labeled “Book Now for Learner’s Licence Test”.
  4. Select the appropriate licence Code (1, 2, or 3).
  5. Fill in your personal details (name, contact number, email). You’ll receive a One-Time PIN (OTP) to verify your booking.
  6. Confirm your residential and contact details.
  7. Select your nearest Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC). Slots update between 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM daily.
  8. Choose your preferred test date and time.
  9. Review and confirm all entered details.
  10. Enter the OTP sent to your mobile number to finalize the booking.

Documents Required:

  • Completed LL1 application form (available on NATIS)
  • 3 black & white ID photographs
  • Proof of application fee payment (amount varies by DLTC)

How to Book a Driver’s Licence Test Online

  1. Visit https://online.natis.gov.za
  2. Select your province.
  3. Click “Book Now for Driver’s Licence Test”.
  4. Select the correct driver’s licence code (e.g., A1, B, C1, EC).
  5. Provide your full name, ID number, mobile number, and email.
  6. Verify your address and contact details.
  7. Choose a DLTC with available slots.
  8. Pick your test date and time.
  9. Confirm your booking and use the OTP sent to you.

Requirements:

  • Completed DL1 application form
  • Valid RSA ID

Renewing a Driver’s Licence Card

Residents, especially in Gauteng, must renew licences online via NATIS.

Steps:

  3. Select a DLTC and booking slot.
  4. Submit and confirm your application.

Required:

Vehicle Licence Renewal

You can renew your motor vehicle licence and receive the disc via mail or collect at a designated point.
