GEN1019 Social sciences and ethics
Prerequisite: Enrolled nurses must be registered through a contractual agreement between the Department of Health Studies and the employer.
Purpose: to equip students to apply legal, ethical and professional principles relevant to patients in a general hospital.

GEN102A Basic general nursing science I(a)
Prerequisite: Enrolled nurses must be registered through a contractual agreement between the Department of Health Studies and the employer.
Purpose: to equip students with the scientifi c nursing process in the clinical care of patients with conditions of the genito-urinary system, communicable
diseases and operating room nursing in a general hospital.

GEN103B Basic general nursing science I(b)
Prerequisite: Enrolled nurses must be registered through a contractual agreement between the Department of Health Studies and the employer.
Purpose: to equip learners with the scientifi c nursing process in the clinical care of patients with conditions of the cardiovascular system, respiratory
system and gastro-intestinal system in a general hospital.

Purpose: to equip learners with the basic scientifi c practical skills to nurse patients with conditions of the genito-urinary system, communicable diseases

Purpose: to equip learners with the scientifi c nursing process in the clinical care of patients with conditions of the nervous system, the endocrine system,
the immune system and the musculo-skeletal system in a general hospital.

GEN203E Basic general nursing science II(b)
Prerequisite: GEN102 and GEN103
Purpose: to equip learners with the scientifi c nursing process in the clinical care of patients with conditions of the integumentary system, oncology and
microbiology of communicable diseases in a general hospital.

GEN204F Basic general nursing science practica II(a)
Prerequisite: GEN104 and GEN105
Purpose: to equip learners with the scientifi c nursing skills in the clinical care of patients with conditions of the nervous system, the endocrine system, the
immune system and the musculo-skeletal system in a general hospital.

GEN205G Basic general nursing science practica II(b)
Prerequisite: GEN104 and GEN105
Purpose: to equip learners with the scientifi c nursing skills in the clinical care of patients with conditions of the integumentary system and cancer

The last intake for this programme will be in 2010. Students have to complete the programme by the end of 2012.
An individual may not register for this programme. Only if a candidate is employed by institutions that have signed an offi cial agreement with Unisa and
if the candidate has been selected by the Institution to register for this programme, may they do so. Registrations are usually co-ordinated by the specifi c
employer.

Formative and summative theoretical and practical assignments are conducted by appointed mentors and supervisors from the clinical fi eld in accredited clinical facilities in collaboration with the Department of Health Studies.
Completion of the programme will lead to registration with the South African Nursing Council as a registered nurse. Only students with one outstanding module from the fi rst study year, will be allowed to register for second study year modules. All modules are off ered as year modules.

A99 Practica

To comply with the practica requirements for registration with the SA Nursing Council, students have to conduct pre-required clinical
practica sessions in the approved clinical facilities. The practica modules must be completed simultaneously with the corresponding theoretical modules. Clinical assessment is conducted in the accredited clinical facilities during periods determined by the Department of Health Studies, in
consultation with the Clinical Facilitator in the clinical facility.
