ABOUT THE BURSAR

The KwaZulu-Natal are offering bursary awards within various fields of study through 4 of their departments. The bursary will cover the following expenses: tuition, accommodation, prescribed textbooks, meals or a meal allowance.

Dept of Public Works

  • Bsc Civil Engineering
  • Bsc Electrical Engineering
  • Bsc Quantity Surveyor (with Honours degree in Construction Project Managements)
  • BSc Mechanical Engineering
  • National Diploma: Construction Management

 

Dept of Transport

  • BSc Civil Engineering
  • B Tech Civil Engineering Technologist
  • National Diploma: Public Transportation Management
  • National Diploma: Transportation Economics

 

Office of The Premier
Degree/ National Diploma in:

  • Artisan qualifications
  • Aviation related studies
  • Engineering related qualifications
  • Engineering qualification (with focus on water & energy)
  • Emergency Medical Care
  • Maritime studies

 

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen,
  • KwaZulu-Natal resident,
  • Between 18 and 35 years old,
  • Completed Matric,
  • Provisionally accepted to study/ currently studying at a recognised South African tertiary institution in one of the aforementioned fields of study,
  • Studying/ intend to study full-time.

*Preference will be given to student who are studying/ intend on studying at a tertiary institution within KZN.

HOW TO APPLY

Please note: this application form applies to all departments – please be sure to note which department you are applying to on the first page.
The following items should accompany your complete application form:

  • ID document (certified copy),
  • Matric certificate (certified copy),
  • Statement of latest results (certified copy),
  • Official study record (certified copy),
  • Proof of acceptance/ registration from tertiary institution OR admission requirements if not yet accepted,
  • Curriculum outline from tertiary institution (incl. subjects and years to complete),
  • Tuition fees to complete the qualification on the tertiary institution letterhead,
  • A study plan explaining how you will complete the qualification over the bursary period,
  • Motivation letter stating why you should be awarded the bursary,
  • Parents/ guardians ID documents (certified copies),
  • Parents/ guardians statement of income and expenses,
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (latest payslips/ pension receipt/ proof of unemployment from Dept of Labour/ certified death certificate).
